Luge World Cup 2011

The first FIL Luge Cup since the 2010 Olympics games, The Whistler Sliding Centre is one of the many race venues for part of the 2011-2011 Luge world cup race seasons. The event will be held from December 9th 2011- December 10th 2011.

One of the most dangerous sports in the Olympic Games. Athletes lie feet-first on a fibreglass sled, with no braking system, and  race down an artificial track with high-banked turns and an average slope of 8 to 11 percent, reaching speeds of 140 kph, thus facing up to 5 g’s. As well as trying to keep on the sled at these speeds, athletes also need to maintain perfect aerodynamic form and navigate the icy track. (The track is sprayed with water to create the approximate 2-inch surface of ice).
