Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains had fabulous start to the season with amazing snowfall in November. December has seen a high pressure move in with small amounts of precipitation arriving as weak system have passed over. The conditions are hard packed powder with it becoming softer as you get higher due to an inversion. (When the temperature in the valley is lower than at the peak.) The groomed runs are in good condition with snow making at full throttle during the night. Most skiers have put away their powder skis and are sharpening their edges. I would recommend one of the Volkl skis in the RTM (Ride The Mountain) line-up or the new Atomic Nomad Blackeye TI.
Here is a shot of the last of the powder just as the high pressure was rolling in. This is looking back down Garbanzo Chairlift on Blackcomb Mountain. Many of our staff are out exploring the mountain for the first time and are returning with a look of excitement; they are stoked on being in Whistler. Every year almost all the new staff take to snowboarding as they are often familiar with surfing.
